Our new dentist John Wright has been kind enough to write us a wee blog to let us know a bit about himself.
Having completed my science doctorate/PhD in 1991, I felt that a career in dentistry would suit a part of my character which places great importance on paying attention to detail, which in turn leads to successful outcomes. After qualifying in dentistry in 1996 with commendation, I have thoroughly enjoyed life as a dentist and worked in the Glasgow area since then, honing my dental skills along the way. I soon came to the conclusion that preventatively orientated dentistry should be paramount, ‘prevention is better than cure’, and as a result promote several options that are not always available on the NHS system. My belief is that everyone should be given a choice of all up to date treatment and reasonable options available. With this approach in mind I have a specialised interest in the use of white/tooth coloured restoratives as these have been shown to preserve and increase tooth lifespan as opposed to standard fillings. They can be used as an alternative to and also prevent the later need for crowns and veneers as sound tooth structure is maintained in all cases. Also in this ever changing world that is more cosmetically aware, I am able to provide veneers/crowns where appropriate and resin restorative build ups together with the use of Botox anti wrinkle treatment for both young and more senior members of the community. In recent years I have attained a qualification in advanced dental acupuncture, a useful tool which can be used to treat general stress, anxiety, dental jaw muscle pain and those individuals with a prominent gag reflex. All preliminary discussions on any matter are most welcome. Thankyou
